Welcome Miss Trethewey.

Welcome Miss Amanda Trethewey to Room 3

Miss Trethewey is a student teacher in our room and will be with us for the next 7 weeks.
The children all love her and who wouldn't -
look at the fun we have been having with her this week........

On Monday we did baking with Miss Trethewey, we were following instructions during Discovery Time and we made cute little cookie chicks.

We enjoyed reading with her in the library on Tuesday.

On Thursday Miss Trethewey brought her pet bunny Playdoh to school.  We all got the chance to hold him and then she lead us into some awesome writing about him.

Number 10 Tawai Cres

This week our big book was "Number 10 Tawai Cres".

Each week we enjoy a new big book as part of our shared reading programme.  As a class we look at different strategies we can use to help us read the book.  We also spend time talking about the punctuation in the book, we look for high frequency words that we know and work on reading with an interesting voice.

This week we tried copying the style of writing in the big book ourselves and the children came up with all sort of fun things that happen at their house.  We had lots of fun ideas, Dads cooking, little brothers sleeping on the stairs, whanau going to circus and different family members on the computer.

The children also made a letterbox with their street number on it and we have a fun display on the wall of these learnings.

Next week we will be starting our tennis lessons.

Financial Literacy Workshop

We had a visit from Captain Cash-tastic from ASB Bank this week.  He is a real Super Hero and was helping us keep our money safe from Muncher the Money Monster.

We learnt that notes are bigger than coins and we put our money in order from smallest to largest.

We learnt about eftpos cards....how they are light to carry around and that you can only take out what you put in.

We also learnt about WANTS and NEEDS.  Captain Cash-tastic had this great saying "Speed to your needs and wait for your wants".

It was a really fun workshop with loads of great learning too.

Kindness, Kiwi's and Ukulele's!

We have had a busy week AGAIN in Room 3 with all sorts of fun going on.

Tony came and did an awesome show telling us how it is Cool to be Kind.  He did some neat magic tricks and Sasha was up helping him.  He had a good message and gave us lots of strategies if we come across bullies.

Mrs Goodin came and taught us art, what a treat.  We made Kiwi's to represent our new syndicate.  Mrs Goodin is doing something clever with this art, but it's a surprise for now.......

We also had our second Ukulele lesson, Shane is teaching us to strum down with our fingers and up with our thumbs.  We have a lot of fun, sing some crazy songs!
